What is the Sugar City Dental Access Care Grant?

The people living in Sugar City and the surrounding communities have more cavities and tooth related problems than residents from similar areas throughout the U.S.A. Many of our neighbors do not have dental insurance or Medicaid to help with rising costs and are unable to receive the dental care they need to stay healthy and pain free.

Dr. Crofoot and his staff at Corner Stone Family Dental saw the need to reduce dental cost for these people. He approached Sugar City's city council and offered to write a grant to reduce the cost of dentistry. Sugar City was awarded nearly $11,000 a year for 3 years to provide help with the cost of dentistry.

People who live in the Sugar Salem School District, who do not have dental insurance or Medicaid, and whose earnings show a need may qualify for help on needed dental treatments.

For those who don't meet the income criteria, money has also been set aside to reduce the cost of dental sealants (usually for kids between 6 and 16 years of age). These sealants placed on the biting surfaces of back teeth prevent cavities before they start. Again, this help is available to everyone in the Sugar Salem School District who doesn't have dental insurance regardless of income.

The funding is limited and spread out through the year allowing a certain number of applicants to be helped each month. We will help as many people as we can, but not everyone can be helped. The emphasis is placed on treating dental problems and preventing future problems by placing sealants.
